Today I decided to make cheese straws. This recipe is adapted from the food blog, Girl Versus Dough which is how I felt making these cheese straws, which for me kind of ended up as cheese puffs. Still great just a little large.
Here is what you will need, 1 sheet of puff pastry, 1 block of the hard to pronounce cheese called, gruyere, oregano, garlic powder, egg-wash (which is 1 egg and a tablespoon of water) and a pastry brush. (preferably silicon)
First start by grating the the cheese which I am unable to spell…
…and toss it with the oregano and garlic powder.
Cut the sheet of puff pastry in half and brush both pieces with the egg-wash on one side each. This is where it comes in handy to have a silicone brush rather than a bristled one, because sometimes the bristles fall into food which does not make for yummy cheese straws. (and/or puffs)
Spred the cheese and spices on to one of the pastry pieces and lay the other piece on top, wash-side-down.
Then brush the top with egg wash.
Lay the straws onto a parchment lined tray. Cut the straws into short pieces and twist them.
Pre-heat your oven to 400 and bake them for 13-15 minutes.
I thank my brother for the amazing pictures. I served these with spaghetti and they were very good. These cheese puffs were pretty quick to make.
