Today I made candy corn for Halloween. I got this recipe from Food52.
All you need is…
- 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
- 1/4 cup instant skim milk powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1 tablespoon water
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 to 2 drops orange food color
- 1 to 2 drops yellow food color
First whisk together confectioners sugar, milk powder, and salt. Then in a small pot heat sugar, corn syrup, water, and butter on high heat and stir with a silicone spatula until everything is dissolved. Attach a candy thermometer on the side of the pot without stirring wait till the mixture reaches 240 degrees. Quickly remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Pour the syrup into the bowl and mix until the mixture forms a ball.
Pour onto a parchment lined baking tray and leave it for five to ten minutes. Split the dough into three balls and color one orange and one yellow.
Make long stands of dough and lay them next to each other in the correct order.
I made big ones and small ones.
Cut into triangles.
Let them sit out for about two hours to dry before you cut them. It makes it a lot easier. Also try running the knife under hot water.
Happy Halloween and enjoy.
