Today I finally used up all of my store bought brown sugar and it was finally time to try homemade brown sugar. All it requires is three ingredients. One cup of granulated sugar, two teaspoons of unsulphured molasses, and no sense of smell. I’ll get to the no sense of smell part later.
First, pour the sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer. Then add the molasses and the no sense of smell. Once you open the molasses and pour it into the bowl you will realize were that third ingredient comes from. I mean for something that is supposed to be unsulphured it sure doesn’t smell like it.
Mix with the paddle attachment on medium speed until it looks like…
This recipe is for a light brown sugar, to get a darker sugar just keep adding molasses.
I got into the holiday spirit and made gingerbread men with my brown sugar. It works for any recipe that requires brown sugar, packs down like brown sugar, and despite the molasses even taste good on its own!
You can also use your homemade brown sugar to make graham crackers!
